
Cooked Apples With Red Hots
Kids are always delighted with sweet treats and this is a nifty way of getting them to eat some fruit. If you are having a party and there will be kids there, these candied apples will please them. These are quite big appetizers because they are served whole so they are great if dinner is a long way off or you might want to serve these after dinner as a snack.
Homemade Candied Apples
The red food coloring makes these candied applies look really colorful and festive and the cinnamon red hot candies gives them a really nice flavor. You can serve these candied apples in any season but they are especially good in the fall or winter because they are warming and delicious. Candied apples are very easy to make, even if you do not do much cooking usually, and they are great for a buffet table. You can also make them for the kids while you make seafood appetizers or fancy appetizer recipes for the grownups.
Red Hot Apples Ingredients
- 8 apples
- 8 cinnamon red hot candies
- 3 cups white sugar
- ½ cup water
- 1 teaspoon red food coloring
- ½ cup white corn syrup
Red Apples Preparation
- Put a wooden stick into the bottom of each apple.
- Grease a baking sheet.
- Combine the corn syrup, sugar, and water in a heavy pan over a medium heat.
- Heat it to about 280 degrees F without stirring.
- If you do not have a thermometer, it is ready when a little bit of syrup dropped into cold water forms pliable but firm threads.
- Remove the syrup from the heat and stir in the food coloring and candies.
- Twirl each apple in the syrup, tilting the pan so the apples are covered.
- Put them on the baking sheet to cool.
