Cabbage And Kielbasa Soup

Cabbage soup has been a part of the menu for countries worldwide for literally centuries. It was first used and noted back in Roman times. Adding meat to your cabbage soup is just good sense since the cabbage offers you excellent health properties as a vegetable. The meat is able to be stretched slightly further with the addition of the vegetables. Add a few other vegetables to your cabbage soup with kielbasa, or consider another type of sausage. Polish sausage has long been used and European countries add spicier or more hot sausages, depending on the taste they are seeking.

Kielbasa Cabbage Ingredients

  1. One half of a medium sized head of cabbage
  2. 3 potatoes, chopped into small squares
  3. One half teaspoon of salt.
  4. one and one half pound of Kielbasa
  5. 2 pints of beef stock
  6. One small onion, chopped finely, or
  7. 4 green onions, chopped.
  8. One can of diced stewed tomatoes

Kielbasa Cabbage Preparation

  1. Cut your sausage up into small pieces and fry it lightly in a medium sized pan. Add a bit of water to reduce the drippings in the pan and dump both the sausage and the water into your cooking pot. Fry the onion and once they have begun to look translucent, add the cabbage and lightly fry it until it has just begun to go limp in the pan.
  2. Combine all the remaining ingredients in either your crock pot or your pot such as a dutch oven. It is possible to cook the cabbage in the oven. Add a lid to the pot and place on 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about two and one half hours.
  3. In your crock pot, combine all ingredients, set the crock pot on low, and cook for approximately 7 hours in order to combine all of the flavors and permit the cabbage to thicken the mixture.
  4. It is not necessary to fry the ingredients, this is an optional step. The taste that is released when the sausage and the cabbage begin to fry is beyond compare, but it may be swapped out. If you will have extra guests for dinner that night, it is only necessary to just toss in a few more potatoes and some cabbage. If necessary add another can of tomatoes and you are ready to go.
